Plant Preservation Mixture (PPMTM) 28th October 2022

Plant Preservation Mixture (PPMTM) is a robust, broad-spectrum biocide formulated for use in plant tissue cultures. PPMTM targets bacteria and fungi in plant tissue culture media as well as in contaminated tissue.

What is Plant Preservative Mixture (PPM)?

Plant Preservative Mixture (PPM), is a broad spectrum biocide/ for plant tissue culture. PPM is the ultimate solution for the endless fight against microbial contamination from air, water and endogenous.

About the plant preservative mixture (PPM)

Plant Preservation Mixture (PPMTM) is a heat stable preservative/biocide that can be used to effectively prevent or reduce microbial contamination in plant tissue culture.

At optimal doses, PPMTM , which stands for Plant Preservative Mixture™, is an extremely effective preservative/biocide, but does not impair in vitro seed germination, callus proliferation or callus regeneration.

Plant Preservation Mixture (PPMTM) prevents the germination of bacterial and fungal spores. It is heat stable and can therefore be autoclaved with media.
PPM can and should be used as a standard ingredient in plant tissue culture media, and is also significantly cheaper than commonly used antibiotics.
While PPM is primarily designed to inhibit airborne contamination, waterborne contamination and contamination introduced by human contact, it can – in many cases – also be used to reduce endogenous contamination.

Techniques

Despite the more stringent use of sterile techniques, contamination of plant cell and tissue cultures remains a persistent problem that can result in losses ranging from small numbers of cultures to the loss of entire batches.

The use of PPM in the above cases has proven to be very effective in controlling the levels of microbial contamination in our tissue culture programme. Furthermore, with the development of new techniques and protocols, it is reasonable to assume that additional contamination problems are likely to be encountered.

PPM

PPM is a heat-stable preservative/biocide that can be used to effectively prevent or reduce microbial contamination of plant tissue on demand.

At optimal doses, Plant Preservation Mixture (PPMTM), which stands for Plant Preservative Mixture, is a very environmentally friendly preservative/biocide, but would not interfere with in vitro seed germination, callus proliferation and callus regeneration.

Preservative Mixture (PPM), is a broad-spectrum biocide for custom plant tissue. PPM is the ultimate phrase for the decision of unlimited control of microbial contamination by air, water and endogenous.

It affects key enzymes in the Krebs cycle and electron transport chain. Depending on the dose and level of contamination, PPMTM is a biocide component in plant culture media. In addition, it can also function as a biostatic compound as a preventive measure. When diluted in plant growing media, it is effective as a microbicide (i.e. bactericide and fungicide) against non-human pathogens, components of liquid or semi-solid plant growing media.

PPM is effective for most seedless plants (angiosperms and gymnosperms); however, its use is not recommended for ferns, mosses, algae and aquatic plants. Optimisation may be required to maximise potency. Although PPM is an excellent tool for preventing and eliminating contamination of cultures, it is not a substitute for aseptic laboratory techniques and the use of appropriate air handling systems is recommended.
