Random Hexamers are a mixture of oligonucleotides representing all possible sequences for that size. Random labelling produces a labelled DNA probe with high specific activity that can be used for all southern, northern and in situ hybridisation studies.Random hexamers can be used for primary synthesis in oligonucleotide labelling in a similar way to the use of hexamers (1,2) and cDNA synthesis. Random Hexamers: a mixture of random hexanucleotide primers that hybridise to whole target RNA sequences, allowing reverse transcription of polyadenylated and non-polyadenylated RNAs.

Random hexamers can also be used in a similar way to the use of hexamers in cDNA synthesis in combination with the d(T) oligo to produce multiple cDNA sequences with 5' ends. Recently, random primers have been used to detect DNA polymorphism. These polymorphisms, detected simply as segments of DNA that amplify in one parent but not in the other, are inherited in a Mendelian fashion and can be used to construct genetic maps in various species.
Using this preparation kit uses rRNA-free samples to create metatranscriptomic libraries by reverse transcription. This kit takes advantage of pairwise directional sequencing using Illumina's TruSeq Cluster kit.
